My son and I have purchased 10 vehicles total from Randy & Jared. From the first one to the last one, we've been very pleased with EVERY one of them. I'm still paying for my mistake of dealing with these guys. I've spent more than the car is worth two times over to just keep it on the road. Was told car came for nc but found out after I bought it an it was to late that it come from new york an is ate up with rust. Brakes were gone , transmission leak , clogged cat. An blown head gasket. They reset on board computer to hid it all an with a straight face said there was nothing wrong with it as far as they knew lol.... Maybe my experence was just an isolated thing with these guys but be very very careful or you might end up throwing 14 or 15 thousand away an for alot of people that is hard to overcome myself included.
I hate to "one star" a business that isn't horrible. I bought a truck from these guys, and the overall experience wasn't AWFUL, but there are some problems. First, they claim that most of their trucks have not been smoked in, but the olfactory senses claim otherwise, so I call bull. They need to stop using that to suck people in and just admit that the majority of the trucks they sell HAVE been smoked in by somebody sometime. The truck I bought has not been smoked in, but the Check Engine Light came on within two weeks of buying the truck, and it was an expensive repair. Luckily I bought a warrant, but I still had to dish out $600 or so of my own money in addition to the $1500 that the warranty paid. DO NOT TRUST THE ABSENCE OF A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. They assured me that the truck "had already passed inspection", but the receipt that was left in the glove box seemed to me to indicate that no emissions inspection was actually done. I am of the opinion that the Check Engine Light had simply been reset rather than any actual problems being fixed. They sell 10+ year old vehicles, basically, and do a good job of making them look good so that you feel like you're getting a new ride, but most are high mileage and buyer beware. The entire underside of my truck was painted black, in my opinion to hide what has turned out to be a significant amount of rust. I also had to replace a backup light literally the day I bought the truck. Nice guys, and I'm not saying they're crooked or cheaters, but they sell trucks that are of the age where many problems are actually developing but are fairly easy to hide. My opinion is that you're not getting a bargain, you're getting a truck that has probably lived most of its useful life but still looks good and may require a good bit of money to keep it working well in the near future. They do NOT let people keep vehicles for extended test drives, and they do not have weekend business hours, so they limit your opportunities to have a mechanic check the vehicle. I would never buy a vehicle from them again, especially not without a mechanic check and hooking up and OBDII tester to see which tests are failing and how long it's been since a reset.
Bought a truck from them it broke down came back from KY. Just got the truck had not had it 72 hrs. Tried to bring back they gave us some money back but around 100 dollars to fix that problem and Randy said that is all he would do. Now 3000 dollars worth or work on the truck it is still in the shop for something else. I am not tell you not to buy from Gates but I will not and I have really waited to do this review. I am not one to bad mouth people or place. I have been told by many people I wished I knew you were think of going to Gates I would have told you don't. So I am tell you don't.
I have purchased used vehicles my whole life and dealt with numerous used car dealerships, and I can safely say this is the best place I have ever dealt with. After learning the hard way from other used car dealers in town, I'm so glad I stumbled upon these guys. They were honest, straight forward, didn't pressure us, and sold us a great car that was exactly what they said it was. I have since purchased 4 more vehicles from Randy and Jared and couldn't be more pleased with my purchases.
