WOW!!! is the best way for me to describe this non-electric campground. WOW....just beautiful!!! Wonderful camp hosts who keep the restrooms spotless, well maintained surroundings, cool at night in the summer, creeks and rivers for cooling off and wading, trout fishing, camp store, great place to bike, hike, etc etc etc. Campground has sites that can only be reserved online while also having "walk in" only sites too and this is a "heavy use" park so finding a spot can be difficult at times. While we were there, it was busy but super quiet at night with some folks using their generators to top off their batteries during the day. Bring cash or check as I believe they do not take credit cards if you are paying for a walk in/first come, first serve site. We will definitely return to this campground. (We stayed on site 49 which is right on the river). Please note: no cell service unless you drive about 2 miles from the park.

Staff made what could have been a difficult experience into a welcoming one. The place was booked out but my friend and I just wanted to hike in and set up our tents for one night and then meet the rest of our group to hike up to the Deep Gap Campground. We arrived just an hour before sundown and found out it was fully booked and all the first-come/first served tent-only areas were already taken. We were about to get into the car and figure out something else when we came across two volunteers heading out after closing. We explained what we intended to do to ask for advice and they wound up pointing us to a drive-up spot that had no one currently in it for Friday night. They graciously opened the office back up and let us pay for a spot.

B-U-TI-FULL campground! I think it must have been 15 degrees cooler here than in Atlanta as well. My only disappointment was that it was so cool the night we were there, that the katydids weren't as active as they normally are. Swimming in the cold (60 degrees?) Nantahala river was super fun as well. The campground hosts and staff were very nice.

Great time, great people and a great way to detach from electronics! Perfect place for kids to get dirty, fight over the biggest and best walking stick, jump in creeks, off trees, into rivers, find crawfish and gems in the water and explore! Judy, Peggy and Dale were great at the store and around the camp. Great bathrooms and showers. Will return again!

This place is not far from where I live. They've just upgraded the bathrooms with super nice showers. A nice quiet place to camp for a few nights and enjoy nature. They even have a small camp store if you run out of an item. There's a nice creek to play in although the water is super cold. I highly recommend Standing Indian.

We got to set up our tents before the sun went down, and returned our car the next morning to the hiking lot to meet with our group. We also returned from the woods in time to watch the eclipse in an open field. The area is very laid back and friendly.
